From Rags to Riches: Applying Alex Hormozi's Principles

‘‘The Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Poorer’’

It's a narrative deeply ingrained in society, one that almost everyone believes to be true. We've grown accustomed to the unfairness of the world, accepting it as the norm because, well, what other choice do we have?

We find ourselves stuck in the monotonous rhythm of traditional jobs, tirelessly working eight hours a day, hoping to climb the corporate ladder and make a little more money.

But what happens? We end up caught in an endless cycle:

  • Increase income

  • Upgrade lifestyle

  • Pay hefty taxes

  • Work even harder

It's easy to fall into this trap because we don't see anything inherently wrong with it. In fact, society glorifies this very process.

And here you are, right in the midst of it all, going through the motions of life.

But let me introduce you to Alex Hormozi, who challenges us to think differently. He says that if we truly want to be rich, we must tolerate nothing but excellence.

We need to acknowledge the unfairness of life and act accordingly.

You see, being "broke" is more than just a lack of money—it's a mindset that holds us back due to two key factors:

  • Lack of capital

  • Lack of time to make more money

We tend to believe that those born into wealth have it easy. They can amass even greater wealth by investing in real estate, playing the stock market, or starting their own ventures.

But most people forget one crucial resource available to each and every one of us—time.

Believe it or not, we all have extra time to spare.

How we spend our everyday activities directly affects the quality of our lives. And yet, most of us remain stuck in the same routine:

  • Devoting 80% of our time to traditional jobs

  • Using the remaining 20% for momentary "enjoyment" because we deserve it

But making the most of that 20% becomes challenging when the other 80% is filled with draining and unfulfilling tasks. Unhappiness creeps in, and distractions easily sway us.

So what can we do? How can we break free from this "broke" state of mind?

The answer lies in acquiring valuable skills.

Building a repertoire of skills will make you unstoppable. Imagine if you were to lose your job today.

Without the usual path to rely on, where would you end up?

Building, selling, and leading are the three essential skills you need to learn if you want to banish money worries forever, as Alex suggests.

Building a business is a lifelong project that allows you to apply everything you've learned in life.

And here's the best part:

  • No need of fancy degrees

  • Complex business plans

  • Big team

All you need to do is identify ONE problem and offer ONE solution.

People face countless problems every day, and guess what?

They care about themselves. They don't care about your credentials or the size of your office. All they care about is what you can do for them.

So, remember, your solution is what truly matters—it's time to sell it. And who said selling can't be easy?

While education and mentorship is worth, it requires spending money and possibly going into debt.

The Traditional Path:

  1. Go to College

  2. Get a job

  3. Pay off loans

  4. Climb the corporate ladder

  5. Retire at 65

It works, but what if there's a better way? A path that some people are starting to discover.

After graduating, many hesitate to invest in further learning, deeming it too risky. They find comfort in their steady paycheck and current knowledge. But they become unaware of other opportunities.

Let's explore a scenario shared by Alex in an interview:

Person A was earning minimum wage. They had an opportunity to take a phlebotomy class for $500, enabling them to earn $25 per hour. However, Person A believed they couldn't afford the class.

But most people fear taking this "risk." They prefer the comfort of a small paycheck over pursuing something greater.

Instead of fixating on the cost, start considering the return on investment (ROI). Whenever you make a purchase, that item becomes your driving force until you achieve the ROI.

The math to earn the money you desire is simple. Break it down into manageable steps:

To make $100,000 you need to make $3,000 per day. And you can do this by:

  • Sell a $500 service to 6 people

  • Sell a $1k product to 3 people

  • Sell a $3k product to 1 person

Focus on building something valuable. If you believe in the value of your product or service, there's no reason not to sell it at a higher price.

Now, you might think it's challenging to sell a product. But all you have to do is get to work. Reach out to people, send emails, make calls.

It can be overwhelming, but don't let that stop you. Take that first step and start now. The ones who take action always have an edge.

You don't have to be a genius or possess extraordinary talent. What sets you apart is your willingness to take action.

Alex knows the secret to being productive, and it's surprisingly simple:

  • Minimize the time between waking up and getting to work.

Believe it or not, it works wonders when you give it a try.

Instead of pondering over what to do after waking up, get up and dive into your work. Spare yourself the 30 minutes of scrolling through social media, unless you want to spend your day glued to your bed.

Overcome procrastination and laziness by starting with something small.

This will give you a sense of progress right from the beginning. For instance, begin by making your bed or preparing a cup of coffee. Once you conquer these small tasks, everything else becomes easier.

The same principle applies to learning.

As soon as you acquire knowledge, put it into action without delay. Don't move from one book to another without taking decisive steps based on what you've learned.

Remember, even if you're intelligent, talented, or wealthy, you'll never achieve more unless you take action.

In the end, it's the doers who always emerge victorious.
